Barkatullah University has issued notices to 20 private colleges in the state capital after irregularities were detected in faculty appointments uploaded on its official portal.
The anomalies came to light after BU became the first university in Madhya Pradesh to mandate private colleges to upload faculty data online.
The updated records revealed that in several cases, the same professor was listed at multiple colleges. Some faculty members were also found to be included in the staff roster despite not actually teaching at the institutions.
These discrepancies were noticed during an affiliation review, prompting BU to seek clarification from the concerned colleges. A total of 45 private colleges are under scrutiny, including 10 located in Bhopal.
Among those named are MK Ponda College, ISKCON College, Anand Vihar Women’s College, Rajiv Gandhi Law College, TIT College, and Adarsh College in Rajgarh. Many of these colleges offer B.Ed, MBA and Law courses. To examine the matter, the university has constituted a tribunal chaired by SK Malhotra. Two days of hearings have been held so far, with around 10 colleges failing to appear. Notices have now been issued to these institutions, asking them to submit explanations. The university has stated that if responses are not satisfactory, it may recommend cancellation of affiliation and refer the matter to the Higher Education Department for further action.
